Julie Rikelman is an attorney for The Center of Reproductive Rights, and helps in courts regarding reproductive healthcare. She does this by protecting their legal rights, and works to secure women's access to that healthcare. This makes her an upstander because she is fighting to protect a community and a group of people, and is helping to make a difference.
Something that I think makes an upstander, is someone who fights for not just themselves, but for others that might not have the opportunity to share their voice. I think they are people who work towards a better world, and who's goal is to create a safer and heathier environment for others and themselves. I think an upstander works for something they're passionate about, not because someone else told them to, and does what they can to make things better.
